Sadaqah Jariyah literally translates from the original Arabic as ‘flowing’ or ‘running’ (jariyah) ‘charity’ (sadaqah), meaning charity that one gives in this life, which continues to provide benevolent benefits to the designated recipients, and thus a divine reward to its giver, after its giver has departed this life. It is commonly referred to as ‘ongoing charity’, ‘ever-flowing charity’ or ‘running (as in a river) charity’. The expression ‘ever-flowing charity’ reflects the special ability of this type of charity to reach both recipients and donors after the donor's death.

It is an ongoing form of giving that ensures people are cared for long after we have gone to the hereafter, providing us with endless rewards for our deeds. This form of flowing charity has gone by many names - endless charity, perpetual charity, ongoing charity, continuous charity - but they all reflect the true nature of this blessed way of giving.
