Fidyah is a religious obligation for Muslims who are unable to fast during Ramadan for valid health or other reasons. It applies to those who:
Fidyah involves making a donation in the form of food for those in need. It is a way of making up for missed fasting days when it is physically impossible to make them up at a later date.
The verse from the Qur'an that refers to Fidyah explains who is obliged to pay it and how to make up for missed fasting days:
‘For a certain number of days. And to those of you who are sick or on a journey, it is for a certain number of other days. And to those who are able to do so, it is incumbent upon them to redeem - to feed the poor. And even better for him who voluntarily does good. Fasting is good for you, if you want to know.’
— [Al-Baqarah 2:184]
This verse clearly indicates that those who cannot fast due to illness, travel or other compelling reasons have the opportunity to fulfil their obligation through Fidyah.
Fidyah is not only a form of reparation, but also an act of mercy and concern for others. It gives those who cannot fast the opportunity to help those in need by donating funds to feed the poor. Every Fidyah donation makes a huge difference by supporting those who are struggling with hunger and deprivation.
The amount of Fidyah is usually based on the local cost of food for one person. In most cases, this is equivalent to the cost of two meals per day for a person in need. If you are unsure what amount applies in your location, consult your local imam or charity.
According to the decision of the Imams' Advisory Council of the A & A Rainbow Hearts Around The World Foundation, in 2025 the Fidyah for one day of missed fasting is:
Fidyah can be contributed easily through charities that distribute meals to the needy. Support the poor with Fundacją A & A Rainbow Hearts Around The World and help us feed over 50,000 starving during this Ramadan. Our volunteers prepare two meals a day each day -. Suhur i Iftar - for those who are not as fortunate as we are and do not have the food to start and finish their daily fast. Fill in the donation form and fulfil your religious duty today. Your help can change the lives of others!
If you live outside Poland or prefer to donate in English, we have prepared a special campaign for you using the PayPal Donations. Although we do not have the capacity to translate the donation form on the platform wpłacam.ngo.plWe encourage all persons from abroad to make donations via PayPal (you can find a donation form by clicking here). Thanks to your generosity, together we can help even more people in need around the world.
Can't fast? Fulfil your religious duty and help those in need through Fidyah. Every donation is a step towards a better world and support for those who need it most.
You should pay the Fidyah before you leave the fast or before the start of Ramadan if you know that you will not be able to fast for the whole month. It is important to fulfil this obligation in time to support those in need already during the holy month.

Kaffarah is the charitable compensation that Muslims are obliged to pay for deliberately breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan, without a valid reason. It is a form of penance that emphasises the seriousness of fasting as one of the five pillars of Islam.
To make amends for deliberately breaking the fast, you should:
As a result, Kaffarah for one deliberately broken fast is 1,200 PLN (60 x 20 zł).
Kaffarah is also obligatory if a promise or oath is broken. To redeem a broken oath, one must:
As a result, Kaffarah for breaking its oath is 2000 PLN (10 x 20 zł).
Kaffarah is an important duty that reminds us to be responsible for our actions and to care for others. By supporting those in need through Kaffarah, we will not only redeem our failings, but also contribute to helping the poor and hungry.
Fidyah and Kaffarah are two different forms of compensation in Islam to remedy misconduct related to religious duties. Fidyah is paid by people who, for valid reasons such as illness or old age, are unable to fast during Ramadan and do not have the opportunity to make up the days at a later time. It is a form of charity, feeding the poor for each day of fasting missed. In contrast Kaffarah is the atonement for deliberately breaking the fast in Ramadan without a valid reason or for breaking an oath. It requires a stricter form of atonement, such as uninterrupted fasting for 60 days or feeding 60 poor people for each day of fasting broken. Both forms emphasise the importance of caring for others and being responsible for one's actions in Islam.
